Somer
A self-taught songwriter, musician, producer, and audio engineer, Somer has been producing projects in her Brooklyn-based home studio for over a decade. Born in FL, educated at Princeton, Somer began playing music after her college volleyball career ended, but didn’t really become serious about it until an intense heartbreak forced her to find her own purpose.
In 2012 Somer represented the LGBTQ+ community as a cast member of The Real L Word; she also had her own spin-off web series where she discussed topics like coming out, self esteem, and queer stereotypes. Her overall experience was a rollercoaster of fun and drama, with some crazy twists—and it led to unexpected inroads for her music. As a result of the relationships formed at the TV network, she eventually co-wrote and co-produced a song for the behind-the-scenes spot for Showtime’s “Penny Dreadful”. It was then Somer realized how much she loved taking a script or binge-watching a show and writing a song inspired by it.
Somer’s work has now been featured in multiple indie films, national television, ads, and promos. Currently, she’s part of multiple collaborative music projects, including the grunge / punk band Clinical Trials, and the fringe-pop duo MNR PLSR. She also releases music under her own name “Somer” and is working on a new dark, sassy solo project called “killbunny”.
